Ariadne Shaffer was born in Libby, Montana on July 17, 1972. She attended high school in Seattle, Washington and graduated from Franklin High School in 1990. She had an early interest in acting and earned a drama degree from the University of Washington. After graduation, she moved to California where she joined The Sacred Fools Theater in Los Angeles.
